I just. I think this is one of the biggest signs of how deeply Sherlock cares about John, how deeply he’s in love with him. Sherlock, who could easily starve himself to death when distracted by a case, always, always makes sure that John is fed. Without fail. Even at the start of their many adventures, when they’re in Angelo’s restaurant, Sherlock says that John “might as well eat,” since they’re on stakeout. Even though Sherlock isn’t interested in eating, himself.

Sherlock does that again and again - taking John to restaurant after restaurant, making sure that John orders something and eats it, even when Sherlock’s busy scribbling notes or hypothesizing about a case. (Just look at that bottom-left GIF. Case in point.) The message? JOHN MUST EAT, even if Sherlock does not.

And this is Sherlock, folks. A cold and asocial man who doesn’t give a rat’s arse about other people, normally. But John is the only one whose bloody eating habits Sherlock cares about, with a compulsive, clockwork attentiveness that borders on (hell, is) domestic. That level of concern is not something even average people would feel for mere ‘friends’, let alone Sherlock, who cares little enough about other people’s fiddly feelings and fiddly needs, in the first place.

Sherlock feeds John. And watches out for John, not only in the epic life-saving way, but also in the day-to-day, make-sure-John-gets-fed way.

This pattern repeats throughout canon.

Which is why I love this GIF-set.

Because it’s true.

Not so much because of the girlfriend angle, but because Sherlock is always painfully aware of John, of John’s wellbeing, his health and his happiness. Sherlock is absolutely fucking devoted. And it shows.

Oh Good GOD.

He told the others that he could see Sherlock. Sherlock’s flying, just like when he jumped. He wonders why no one else can see Sherlock but he decides that it is because they did not really believe in Sherlock, they did not love Sherlock like he did.

“It is really a shame of what happened to John,” Mrs. Hudson said.

“He might be a tad crazy but at least John is happy in his own twisted way. I wish I could tell him what really happened,” said Molly.

“Me too. I just want to tell him the truth so badly,” said Mrs. Hudson.

“Even if you did he would never be able to be himself again. He is too far away. There is no turning back for him,” Molly said.

“Come on Molls, I’ll make us a kettle of some tea that doesn’t taste like the swill they have here.”

John was unaware of their conversation. John has been unaware of his surroundings for almost three years now. He talks about his friend, Sherlock, flying all around. He sometimes laughs at quips he only hears. Mrs. Hudson and Molly are sadden by John’s change but Sherlock was the most broken-hearted when he came back.

This empty shell that was supposed to be John doesn’t even recognize his face. He is too busy in his fantasies. Sherlock brought John back home two weeks now. Sherlock has taken care of John for two weeks now and John can’t see him. John is stuck in his past and it’s all Sherlock’s fault. The tear shed will not be the last for Sherlock. The only thing good that comes out of it is that John is happy, even if he has to be crazy to stay happy.
